Anniversary Photography with Kim & Rob

One beautiful part of being a photographer is the amazing stories of friendships and love that I witness and become apart of.   Two years ago, I was lucky enough to share in Kim and Rob’s Wedding at Noosa Beach, on the Sunshine Coast.  Here they are pictured below on their wedding day (so cute!).

I love that since their wedding we have remained in contact, meeting up for breakfasts and email chats.  It was a pleasure to catch up with Kim and Rob for an anniversary photo-shoot.  It reminded me (and I remember thinking this when I first interviewed them prior to their wedding) how they really are best friends, their laughter and their support for one another is infectious.

I also asked Kim & Rob about their experience of marriage, their answers are below.  x

Your fondest memory from your wedding day?
Kim – hearing a ‘love letter’ written by Rob that was included in our ceremony wording.
Rob – watching my wife to be coming through the trees to our ceremony at the beach.

How has life/your relationship evolved since your wedding?
Kim – our bond and commitment is stronger and feels even more deeply entrenched in my heart.
Rob – the journey taken is now shared and each little destination along the way has a whole new meaning.

What is your key to a happy marriage?
K – appreciating each other and always considering the other person first. Also working ‘together’ at things whether it be mundane tasks or long term goals.
Rob – communication and tell your wife you love her every day

How do you keep things romantic?
Kim – Romantic texts/notes. Enjoying quality time together and making those moments special.
Rob – flowers and date night.

Any tips for surviving an argument?
K – Don’t make it personal. Keep an objective perspective on the issue you are “disagreeing” about and compromise when needed.
Rob – Agree to disagree sometimes. It’s not about winning or being right.

What is the best advice you could give to couples getting married or planning their wedding?
Kim – Have the wedding you really want not the one you are expected to have.
– Prioritise the things that are most important to you (as it’s unlikely you will be able to have it all unless you have an unlimited budget).

Rob – Planning – the little things do count. I wanted to save money on some decorations for the ceremony. After agreeing with my wife (of course), we kept them and they completed one of the best photos of our ceremony.
The Wedding – Take time out on the day just to be with your new wife. The day will be hectic and the leading up to it too. So take 15 minutes, go for a walk just the two of you and savour the moment.

Engagement Session with Whitney & Jacques

I was born to capture moments.  In love and kindness. It’s been a force forever growing in my heart.
Without exception this engagement session, spoke to my soul. The fragility of time and the presence of love was overwhelming and a shoot that I will never forget.
‘Capturing the moment’ and documenting through photography is something every photographer talks about, but on this day it became a more powerful statement.
This is Jacques, he’s currently serving in the US Navy, stationed in Japan. This is the love of his life Whitney who lives in Las Vegas. Whitney flew to Brisbane to spend just five days of shore leave by Jacques side. This shoot was all about capturing some images which they can use on save the date cards for their wedding next May.
Here is a preview of their magic.

Now there are oceans between them. Their incredible love. Their kindred spirits. Have left me completely speechless.
I am reminded that this: THIS is what it’s all about.

Melodie & Jonathan // Toowoomba Wedding Photographer

A few words from our beautiful bride:
What inspired you when you were planning your wedding?
I have always drempt of a June wedding, so when Jonathan proposed on New Years Eve 2012…I knew that 2013 was to be our year.
Amazingly the first thing purchased for the wedding were the mens suits. I already had my colour schemes in mind, and  everything seemed to fall into place from there. I wanted simple things, with a little bit of ‘wow’ to stand out.
What was your favourite moment or part of the day?
There were so many moments, and I treasured every minute of the day. Though perhaps the most stand out moment was when we took hands after coming down the aisle. It was a beautiful moment to see the tears in my ‘soon to be husbands’ eyes.
What was the best advice you received as a bride?
To try and not do any thing wedding related the week before the wedding. Of course it sounds almost impossible (and for me it was) but it did minimise the stress and let me enjoy the days leading up to, and the morning of the big day. I was an amazingly calm bride on the day (and I’m told it reflects in photos)
What advice do you have for other brides?
Every bride I know has said that the day just goes so fast. Well it is so incredibly true!!  Just relish in every moment and remember what is important. For me, the most important thing is family and so I wanted them with me every step of the journey, and they were amazing. I was able to listen to any advise, but not HAVE to take it.
