Welcome 2013

As I drove back from Currumbin, after my first shoot for 2013, I felt refreshed.  The sun was setting next to me and I reflected on an amazing year of growth.

2012 was a year of developing trust in myself and my business and a year filled with love. I learnt to stay focused on the present moments, not to worry about the things that are or are not happening, as it is only a distraction.  I learnt it is about ‘showing up’, every day.

It’s about applying the same philosophy to ‘life’ as I do my photo-shoots; it’s about seeing and celebrating the beauty; pausing to reflect; spending time with those that make your life whole; pushing myself and trying new things; having patience, because everything does work, just perfectly.

I have collected some images from 2012, by no means was I trying to put together a ‘best of’, these are just moments from the year.  No theme, just glimpses, things that made me smile when I saw them~ this is about saying cheers to a beautiful year. x

 

 

 

 

The Farr Family // Brisbane Photographer

Some decisions are made quickly, without hesitation.  Some things just feel right.  When I spoke with Kate about photographing her family, the week before their relocation back to the UK, it was one of those moments where the schedule may say no, but the heart says YES! I couldn’t resist.

That morning I knocked on the door, I listened, to hear the scamper of little feet and ever so slightly the door clicked open, beautiful blue eyes peaked around the corner, Thomas, announces, ‘Kate’s here,’ pause, more scampering, a moment later Kate appears with Isabelle wrapped around her hip.

The warm welcome of their home was nurturing like a wintery snuggle.  The remnants of coffee and breakfast, the trinkets of sticker books, fairy wings, bubbles & climbing tubes, the imaginative place of trains and space ships ~ let the magic begin.

I adore the last two images, the hint of the physical; the stripe of colour, adequately describing and sharing the joy of this moment ~ somewhere in that space of childhood stillness and urgency.

The Wren Family // Brisbane Photographer

There are certain things that I love reflecting upon after a shoot, and I wonder in years to come how the story of the photos will be retold to the children.  Sometimes I wonder if you will remember your favourite toys, or the things you rushed up to show me that morning.

Emily, you are two and a half years old here. You are very independent and strong minded. Your Mum was worried that you would be having a ‘no’ morning and might not co-operate for photographs, but you did ~ you were perfect.  ‘Possum’ made out of an egg carton and pipe-cleaners was with you for all the photos.  This morning you were allowed to jump on the bed. Your favourite telly tubby is Poh and you can speak some Spanish, which you learnt from Dora. You are an amazing big sister to Liam.

Liam, you are just over one year old here.  You are a little wobbly on your feet, but  you can make a quick walk from here to there.  When you do, your face lights with surprise, just as much as your Mum and Dad’s, who are so proud. You simply adore your sister, you would follow her on any adventure and you love to be involved in whatever it is she is doing. You are loyal. You are gentle, persistent, and so curious.

Growing Up // Brisbane Photographer

 

 

I started this blog at the encouragement of my Brother over a year ago now, and it has been a learning curve in so many ways. There has been the terrifying moments of, “is anyone going to like my work?” and “is anyone really going to want to look at this?” I remember the very first posts,  I was petrified of pushing the ‘publish’ button ~ Occasionally I still feel that way.  I think it keeps me honest.

Much of this blog has been me pushing through personal, creative and technical boundaries, and now it’s come to this point, this moment, the crossroads.  The moments we all face, and the questions we all must ponder, where do I want this to take me?

I have been working on and researching new websites for months now, and I am finally at the stage of sitting down and pulling things together. I am creating something, simple, clean, with beautiful galleries where the images can sit tucked away in their own categories, making browsing easier and more user friendly.

It has been an amazing experience, going through all my images. I wish I could make up a word, that would adequately encompasses all of my excitement and acknowledge how blessed I have been to work with so many beautiful people. A lot of my work continues to be directed  from these beautiful clients, organically growing and evolving ~ I love it

So, you may notice some changes in the coming weeks, and I ask you for your patience while the finishing touches are added to what I know will be a place you will all enjoy. I promise it will be worth it.

Pip, Joe & Asher // Brisbane Portrait Photographer

My shoot with Pip and Joe and their little man Asher, is the reason I love my job ~ the story so perfectly unfolding before my eyes.

There is no way to rush through a family sitting; especially if you want the ‘real.’  I enjoy spending time in their space, seeing how the family interacts. After this time, the posing and positioning fade, and the moment of the ‘real’ returns, often ever so gently tugged by a child ~ this is my moment.  If you are lucky, like I was, you will witness beautiful talent; as Pip sings, nursing Asher gently to sleep.
