The Wedding of Dave & Mindi

It is a special day to me when any of the couples I work with have their day, and exchange vows, but it is even something more special when it’s a best friend.

The girl that has been there and seen every emotion from you, she has seen the laughing, and crying.  She has stuck by you with the various declarations; ‘we should get fit’ ‘what do you think of this outfit’ ‘stuff that cab line, let’s just walk home’.  She has been the one that has always stood by what I do, no matter what; there is always wholehearted encouragement and belief to chase every dream.

And now, well then, I got to see her start her dream, with her dream man.  This is the gorgeous wedding of Mindi and Dave, they wed earlier this month with a 1920’s vintage inspired wedding.

Dave, you make a becoming, handsome groom.  Your gentleness, love and dedication to Mindi is so special.  Mindi, you are, as always breathtakingly gorgeous.  Your elegance and ability to slip into character will never stop making me smile. The way you and Dave intertwine, the friendship, the patience, the love and support you have for each other is everything I wish for your happiness.

For all of your days – may you look into each other’s eyes and see your best friend.  x

For all the reasons… // Brisbane Family Photographer

I have written this, and re written this post so many times, because I am scared it is going to sound cliché, a soppy business pitch, or even worse like a life insurance add reminding you of the importance of those that you love.  But I don’t know how, in all honesty, to share with you just how much I loved this shoot.  The only way I can think to do this is share more pictures and write less.  But then, this feels like a disservice to the experience.

I was blessed to have such sweetness in front of my lens this day.

My heart was filled. I made audible gasps as I edited the photos. There is something about the softness, the gentleness, the nurturing light that I felt from this family and these photos, that I hope you get too.

For all the reasons that make their family special, for all the stories that make their house a home, for all the love from those that have four legs, to those that have two, I am not sure what there is that shouldn’t be adored. X

to love …..

A couple’s story starts a new chapter, perhaps with happy tears or laughter, or both. There is no question that there will be lots of kisses, hugs, and excited giggles. Then there will be the phone calls and the joy will be re-shared with friends and family over and over.  All this comes from one question……. “will you marry me?”

As a self confessed hopeless romantic, I love offering an engagement session to sit with all of my wedding packages, for so many reasons, not only to have the pleasure of spending a lovely afternoon/day in your company, but you get to see how I work, we get to build a little friendship. There is also the obvious opportunities to make save the date cards, guest books, trailing out your make up and all those other little nit bits associated with your big day. But most of all, the reason I love it, is because this is a moment in time that is special, it’s fleeting, it’s the little period where you get to work on something so special and uniquely ‘yours’. It’s the start of your future together, the one you have dreamed of, but now, as you look at venues, caterers, honeymoon destinations etc, there is confirmation.

If I get the opportunity to work with you, I work with you to make sure the engagement session is just right.  I love being able to go somewhere which is meaningful to you, somewhere you are both comfortable to show your love for each other, or just to be your quirky selves.

This is Dana & Ashley, they are tying the knot in a few months, in Brisbane.  For a contrast, we travelled out to a gorgeous part of the world Stanthorpe, (also where Ashley grew up) for their engagement shoot, and we had a picnic just like on the day Ashley proposed to Dana.   X

Welcome 2013

As I drove back from Currumbin, after my first shoot for 2013, I felt refreshed.  The sun was setting next to me and I reflected on an amazing year of growth.

2012 was a year of developing trust in myself and my business and a year filled with love. I learnt to stay focused on the present moments, not to worry about the things that are or are not happening, as it is only a distraction.  I learnt it is about ‘showing up’, every day.

It’s about applying the same philosophy to ‘life’ as I do my photo-shoots; it’s about seeing and celebrating the beauty; pausing to reflect; spending time with those that make your life whole; pushing myself and trying new things; having patience, because everything does work, just perfectly.

I have collected some images from 2012, by no means was I trying to put together a ‘best of’, these are just moments from the year.  No theme, just glimpses, things that made me smile when I saw them~ this is about saying cheers to a beautiful year. x
