Growing Up // Brisbane Photographer

I started this blog at the encouragement of my Brother over a year ago now, and it has been a learning curve in so many ways. There has been the terrifying moments of, “is anyone going to like my work?” and “is anyone really going to want to look at this?” I remember the very first posts,  I was petrified of pushing the ‘publish’ button ~ Occasionally I still feel that way.  I think it keeps me honest.

Much of this blog has been me pushing through personal, creative and technical boundaries, and now it’s come to this point, this moment, the crossroads.  The moments we all face, and the questions we all must ponder, where do I want this to take me?

I have been working on and researching new websites for months now, and I am finally at the stage of sitting down and pulling things together. I am creating something, simple, clean, with beautiful galleries where the images can sit tucked away in their own categories, making browsing easier and more user friendly.

It has been an amazing experience, going through all my images. I wish I could make up a word, that would adequately encompasses all of my excitement and acknowledge how blessed I have been to work with so many beautiful people. A lot of my work continues to be directed  from these beautiful clients, organically growing and evolving ~ I love it

So, you may notice some changes in the coming weeks, and I ask you for your patience while the finishing touches are added to what I know will be a place you will all enjoy. I promise it will be worth it.

Pip, Joe & Asher // Brisbane Portrait Photographer

My shoot with Pip and Joe and their little man Asher, is the reason I love my job ~ the story so perfectly unfolding before my eyes.

There is no way to rush through a family sitting; especially if you want the ‘real.’  I enjoy spending time in their space, seeing how the family interacts. After this time, the posing and positioning fade, and the moment of the ‘real’ returns, often ever so gently tugged by a child ~ this is my moment.  If you are lucky, like I was, you will witness beautiful talent; as Pip sings, nursing Asher gently to sleep.

These are some of my favourite images below, and this is what I know, to let you know their story;

Joe’s mum handmade all the beautiful quilts in their home

I adore the beautiful moment when Asher looks across at his father, right after the solo portrait

Pip, inspires me, as a mother who bares all, and confronts herself.

The family dog, Amber’s watchful eye and enthusiasm to be included in every photograph

The bountiful garden that Joe cultivates (http://hungrygeckogardens.com/) which flourishes with herbs and vegetables

And Amber ‘s favourite sleeping spot, on the back landing.

Thank you, Pip, Joe, Asher and Amber ~ it was truly a pleasure x

Sean, Mahoe & Mason

This is a story of Mahoe & Sean who love their son Mason, so SO much! With just the right magic, Mahoe entered and won the Mothers Day competition.

Our shoot was nothing shy of an energetically delightful morning at GOMA~ I hope this little man brightens your day just like he did mine.   x

The Art of Making Macarons

For weeks I researched how to make a ‘good’ Macaron. I read countless recipe books, websites, and blogs all of which provided tips on how to achieve Macaron perfection. They provided guidance on how to ensure, visually, they have that ideal rise known as ‘the foot’,  that the bite is firm yet soft and that the filling is smooth and delicious.

For those that have visited my home, you will understand the challenges I faced simply due to the dimensions of my kitchen. I’m not good at math but I’m pretty sure a 6 foot two female into a 1.5m x 2.5m kitchen with limited bench space and an oven that, has two temperature settings, on and off, doesn’t go. So, when I was hoping to prepare  these for a dinner party, clearly, a more industrious kitchen was required ~ Mum’s.

There is something theraputic about cooking at my parents place. It allows me to feel as though I have control and can be patient with areas of my life which, sometimes, I dont have much patience for. My Mum and I have cooked so often together over the years, often words  aren’t necessary, we are a small team it is a small team with gentle transitions.  My Dad potters back and forward drifting in  and out of conversations. The four-legged creatures stand guard underfoot or on benchtops waiting in readiness just incase their needed should there be ‘a fall’. All these factors create my good footing in my mums kitchen.

Anyone who has made macaroons will tell you, precision and standing time is vital. After an abundance of  samples, hot coffee and the occasional nervous breakdown, I achieved Macarons which I was proud of~ I even managed to get a little Heston Blumenthal with my flavours creating; chocolate chilli, white chocolate coconut, and tequilia sunrise (to fit the mexican theme of course!).Now that the fruits of my labour have gone to good homes I look back at the time invested into creating them and realise that the stresses and strains of our everyday lives can be forgotten, for a moment, by simply immersing ourselves into a little baking time with those that you love. Maybe there is nothing that a therapeutic bake, can’t fix?

Thank you to my beautiful Mum, for taking these photos of Quince & I ~ and thank you for a beautiful day.x
